Within the next few months, Delhi residents may have another tax to contend with. After having sanctioned a professional tax, the Delhi Government has now asked the Municipal Commission of Delhi to not only increase all its fees and fines, but also to impose a new tax "on increased urban land value''. This has been approved by the Union Urban Development Ministry. The move is based on recommendations made by the Second Finance Commission to increase the civic body' revenues. MCD officials said that the new tax will be included in the new building by-laws being developed by a special task force.
