Dabhol Power Company (DPC) is reportedly ready to extend the period for conciliation till August. This is a good idea. Nobody, least of all Enron, which own the majority stake in DPC, gains from terminating a costly project suddenly. The least that will be achieved by extending the conciliation period will be a more organised withdrawal of Enron from the $2 billion project. However, if MSEB, the governments of Maharashtra and India act sensibly, then the project can be salvaged by some renegotiation.....(Editorial)
