A federal judge may oversee the cleanup of some of the Hanford nuclear reservation's most dangerous nuclear wastes under an agreement reached Wednesday by Gov. Gary Locke and Energy Secretary Bill Richardson. They will seek a consent decree in US court to govern the cleanup of 177 underground nuclear waste storage tanks. The Energy Department, citing cost overruns, this week fired the company that was to design and build a plant to treat the wastes.
