AIDC inks MoU to set up paper project

The Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) Limited today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kohinoor Pulp and Paper Private Limited, Kolkata for a mega project in the State.
The Kohinoor Pulp and Paper is coming up with a mega Greenfield pulp and paper manufacturing unit at the Industrial Growth Centre at Matia in Goalpara district, with a capital investment of Rs 1,500 crore and production of 200,000 MT per annum of writing and printing paper through a complete environment friendly process. The unit envisages employing 1,100 people directly and providing livelihood to more than 50,000 people indirectly. This unit is expected to get commissioned by December 2012.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the project would motivate and mobilize many more groups to invest in the State in the coming days.
Minister of Industries and Commerce Pradyut Bordoloi said that the Government is constantly endeavouring to attract big investments to Assam and make it aninvestment destination of the country.
The 115 year old Kohinoor group is operating in India and Nepal in diversified fields of business such as banking, life insurance, hydro power, steel, paper, infrastructure and food processing, an official statement mentioned.
