The nagging fear of an impending earthquake and a rapidly expanding hill town that is already bursting at its seams, has had the town planners here unveil the first ever city master plan (CMP) for Aizawl. The master plan promises a safer and greener Aizawl by year 2011 in stark contrast to its present state. The city already has around 5 lakh people crammed in it, with the States total urban area including all other minor town is merely 325.37 square kilometers. With the launching of the master plan the State Government had launched an ambitious project to make the city secure from possible natural disasters of which earthquakes and landslides posed the maximum risk.
