`Alternative strategy with focus on employment, pro-poor vital`

As the new coalition Government is set to assume power at the Centre, expert suggestions are that its economic policy must focus on a pro-poor approach to development, which should be able to enhance the capabilities of the ordinary people and help them to stand on their own feet. Towards this direction the best means is development of enterprises, Dr P.M. Mathew, Director, Institute of Small Enterprises Development (ISED), here told Business Line. The Special Group of the Planning Commission estimated more than half of the employment during the Tenth Plan period to come from growth buoyancy.
