Eight years after physicists coaxed ultra-cold atoms into a new type of matter in which thousands of atoms slide into the perfect lock step behaviour of a single superparticle, two research teams have repeated the feat using small molecules. The achievement will provide physicists a new means to explore the often bizarre behavior of deep-chilled matter, like wires that effortlessly carry electricity and fluids that flow without friction. In particular, a class of materials, high-temperature superconductors, continues to defy explanation.
