Andhra Pradesh is set to overhaul its power sector and introduce phased privatisation. With President K R Narayanan recently giving assent to the contentious power reforms bill, power reforms in the state have received a boost. The reforms package, which had evoked stiff resistance from all opposition parties, includes unbundling of the loss-making state electricity board (APSEB) into commercially viable units, constitution of an independent tariff regulatory commission and phased privatisation of power distribution.
