07/04/1998
Children in Iraq are more susceptible to cancers today than they were before the Gulf War. About this there is no doubt. Since 1990 there has been a definite increase in the incidence of cancers such as cute leukaemia across all age cohorts. For children, however, the rate of increase appears to be five fold. According to hospital authorities, some 10-15 new cancer cases are reported every day, compared to 2-3 before 1990. Alongside this, doctors reports an increase in the incidence of congenital malformation.
