With sale of mustard oil now banned in both Delhi and West Bengal, focus has shifted to an instrument developed at Lucknow, which could help housewives detect 'argemone'adulteration in the oil. The instrument, christened Fluorescence Detection Device (FDD) by Dr S K Khanna, deputy director and head of Food Technology department at the Industrial Toxicology Research Centre (ITRC)- a laboratory under the CSIR, can detect the adulteration in just 10 minutes, claimed Dr Khanna.
