ASEB provides power connection to BPL beneficiaries

DIBRUGARH: The Assam State Electricity Board(ASEB), under its much hyped Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification project(RREP) has provided power connection to 75 below poverty line (BPL) beneficiaries at Romai Tea Estate in Dibrugarh District recently. The additional Deputy Commissioner, P K Rajkhowa while switching on the three transformers set up for supplying the power under RREP in the area, lauded the ASEB personnel for their work and called upon the BPL beneficiaries to use the facility judiciously. He also urged upon the people of the locality to keep a strict vigil on the power theft because such act would bring loss to the state exchequer. Rajkhowa further asked the ASEB authorities to accelerate the project work so that other beneficiaries in the district would be covered soon with power connection. He also assured the ASEB senior officials to provide all forms of administrative support in successful implementation of the project in the district. The total budget sanctioned for this project is around Rs 3,000 cr. After completion, the project will provide electricity to 2000 villages in Dibrugarh District. Under the project, the ASEB will give free power connection to the BPL beneficiaries only. However, the beneficiaries will be charged as usual according to their power consumption. The willing APL consumers will apply to the nearest ASEB office for new connection. The meeting, organized on the occasion at Romai Tea Estate, was graced by Deputy General Manager, Dibrugarh Electrical Circle, Pranab Bora, Chief Manager, Power Grid, Faroque Shah, Executive Engineer, Dilip Saikia.
