Assam to face gas shortfall

Tata study: The flaring away of large quantity of natural gas produced in the Upper Assam oilfields, has been considerably reduced, but the state is now heading for a massive shortfall of gas by the end of the ninth plan. Studied carried out by Tata Energy Research Institute(TERI) have revealed that while about 40 per cent of Assam's natural gas used to be flared off during the mid-sixties and Seventies this has now come down to just about 10 per cent in the past few years.
