Norplant has been in use in Bangladesh since 1985. By 1992 it became a part of the government's family planning programme. It was meant to give protection from pregnancy for a period of five years. But in 1992, a study by the Unversity Research Corporation and Family Health International on the quality of Norplant services in the country revealed that out of the women who had accepted Norplant, 10 per cent found, when they asked for its removal, their request was denied.
