New South Wales state-owned Macquarie Generation will produce 100 gigawatt hours of electricity over the next 12 months from timber industry by-products such as sawdust and woodchips, the company said. Macquarie spokesman Jim Devine told Reuters that following trials at the Upper Hunter Valley Liddell Power Station, the Environment Protection Authority had agreed to issue a licence for large-scale co-firing of biomass.
