SHILLONG, Oct 21: The public information campaign (PIC) on Bharat Nirman of the Central Government was inaugurated by Jaintia Hills district Deputy Commissioner T Dkhar at the LP School playground, Amlarem today.
In his inaugural speech, Dkhar said the aim of public information campaign was to make the people aware of the Central Government schemes, especially the flagship programmes.
The schemes under the Bharat Nirman include rural water supply, rural electricity, irrigation, telephony, rural roads etc.
Dkhar also inaugurated the DAVP stall and participated in an interactive session with villagers there.
The inaugural function was also attended by B Mawlong (ADC, Jowai), RS Manners (EAC In-charge, Amlarem Civil Subdivision), N Shadap (Station Director, AIR, Shillong), Dr E Pame (Director, DFP, Shillong) and K Pohshna (president, Federation of Headmen, Amlarem). The welcome address was given by NJ Saikia (Media & Communications Officer, PIB, Shillong), while the programme was anchored by J Kynjing, (FPO, DFP, Jowai).
At the technical session, Dr M Talang, SDM & HO, Amlarem, spoke about the various schemes under the NRHM such as the National Tuberculosis Control Programme, National Leprosy Control Programme, National Malaria Control Programme and Janani Suraksha Yojana. S Khyriem, APO, DRDA, spoke on the NREGS.
As part of the programme, exhibitions by various government departments and cultural programmes by Song & Drama Division, Guwahati were organized.
