Ayurvedic drug to treat diabetes

An ayurvedic drug to treat mild diabetes without side-effects has been identified by the Indian Council of Medical Research (IMCR).'Vijayasagar', a bark extract of a plant Pterocarpus marsuptum, was found to be effective in treating about 67 per cent of patients suffering from non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).Tests carried out on 97 patients using 2 grams of the extract daily reduced sugar levels in 73 per cent of the patients within four weeks.
