The demand for arecanut in the country is likely to crash in the next few years with more states planning to impose a ban on the use of panmasala. Already Kerala, Goa and Maharashtra, which are in the forefront of the campaign, have banned its use in major cities. Though arecanut is mainly used for chewing, it is used for medicinal formulations by ayurvedic physicians in a very limited way.
