Stung by severe criticism over inaction, West Bengal has done to others what NTPC did to it. Today, the state government asked the electricity board to issue notices threatening disconnection to power to all defaulting bulk consumers unless 50 per cent outstandings were paid "forthwith". They were given seven days to come up with a programme to liquidate the rest of the dues.
