The Bhakra Dam lies in one of north India's seismically most active zones - recording three to four quakes of minor magnitude, measuring 3 to 4 points on the Richter Scale - every year. But the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) six observatories recording seismic activity here since the 60's. are slated to close down after February 28.
