Farmers who were on a fast-unto-death near the Taakali bridge finally called off their protest today evening after the Stat e government received an order from the Maharashtra government that they would release one TIC water from the Ujini dam to Bhima river and another tmc of water from the Varana dam to Krishna river. District-in-Charge Minister S R Kashappanavar, who visited the protesting farmers in the evening, urged them to give up their protest in the wake of the Maharashtra government's decision to release water. He also showed a letter from Water Resources Minister H K Patil urging the farmers to give up their agitation.
