ANGAUL: Two months have lapsed since the issuance of closure notice to Bhubaneswari coal mine under Jagannath area at Talcher but no concrete steps have allegedly been taken by the local MCL officials to meet the safety standards. The 20million tonne annual capacity coal mine was closed following an order issued by the Director, Mines Safety, for the mine authorities' failure to adhere to the safety norms. The Director slapped Section 22A2 of Mines Safety Act on May 29 which prohibits engaging workers in the mines due to unsafe conditions in the opencast mine. Jagannath area officials contested the charges saying that there are other mines at Talcher which are in a very bad shape but did not attract action. According to MCL official sources here, the company has lost about six lakh tonne of coal in the mega mine due to the closure. The action of DMS has hit the Jagannath area badly as its performance this year is worse than last year's. The DMS officials found that the mine was vertical excess than the permissible limit. The vehicles engaged in coal transport and production lack rear camera and air conditioned fittings as required under the law, source said.
