- B'lore scientist finds substitute for diesel

A Bangalore scientist has identified a vegetable oil made from the common 'honge' plant which is an effective and cheap substitute for diesel. Dr U Shrinivasa, professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and the chief programme executive, Sutra project, Indian Institute of Science, and his team have found that honge oil which is used by villagers for lighting their lamps, can be used instead of diesel.Currently, it is being used in running several diesel generators in the villages of Suggenahalli and five other villages in Kunigal taluk of Tumkur district.
