Bonn assesses cost of tax on N-plant operators

The German finance ministry said that plans to tax reserves set aside by utilities for closing nuclear plants would cost power companies around DM13.5bn over 10 years. A spokesman said DM13.5bn was the figure the government would use in the next round of "consensus" talks with utilities on the controversial issues of tax changes and Bonn's goal of phasing out nuclear power.
