BP Amoco has stepped up its efforts to popularise di methyl ether (DME), which has better properties than naphtha, as an alternative fuel for power projects. The company feels the time is now ripe for selling DME, as the Union Power Minister, Mr. P.R. Kumaramangalam, is now now keen on discouraging the use of naphtha as power plant fuel.
