Scientists have findings that may dampen the spirits of chronic-boozers--there is evidence of permanent brain damage in alcoholics. A team from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences used the sophisticated magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) technique to monitor biochemical and metabolic changes in different regions of the brain in confirmed alcoholics and normal perons. The scientists found a marked reducing in key chemicals-- N-acetyl-aspartate, which is exclusively present in cell membranes.
