Accessing a life-sapping tumour lodged deep inside the brain through nasal route is being touted as a "new frontier" in neuro-surgery bristling with immense possibilities for the patients and doctors alike, says a prominent neurosurgeon. A surgical opening of the brain, a largely unexplored tangled web of tiny nerves, tissues and fibres, through conventional methods is not only extremely difficult but also fraught with great risks, says Dr Vijay Sheel Kumar, of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, who has pioneerd the new technique in the country along with a doctor at the Bombay Hospital.
