The Government on Thursday rejected expert advice and blocked any move to clone human embryos for the production of tissue for transplants and a range of other medical treatments. Scientists, who had been expecting therapeutic cloning to be approved, said the decision would mean Britain lagging behind in an area of research in which it excelled and accused the Government of giving in to media scaremongering.
