The UK government agency currently inspecting the Sellafield nuclear plant will not be checking the safety of the plutonium fuel produced for Japanese utility Kansai Electric (KEPCO) and due to arrive in Japan on Wednesday 22 September, Greenpeace stated today. The Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) has sent representatives to the MOX Demonstration Facility following media reports that the operators British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) had deliberately falsified quality assurance data for plutonium fuel at the plant.
