The South African cabinet has approved draft legislation to severely limit smoking in public places, to ban all tobacco advertising and to impose heavy penalties on violations. Health Minister Dr Nkosazana Zuma's Tobacco Products ControlAmendment Bill lays down that any person found guilty of smoking in a public place, in the workplace, on public transport and any other placewhere smoking is prohibited would be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine of R200.
