CAG paints dismal picture of CPSUS` performance

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) paints a dismal picture of the performance of central public sector undertakings (CPSUs), stating that only 139 PSUs made profits during 2001-02 and 120 incurred losses. Of the total profit of Rs 46,905 crore earned by 139 PSUs, 26 PSUs were in just four sectors contributing as much as Rs 38,242.41 crore. This works out 81.53 per cent of the overall profit earned by the PSUs covered the CAG report. The four sectors are coal and lignite, telecommunications, petroleum and power.
