The existing Group of Eight industrial nations must be replaced by a new G8 bringing together all regions of the world, to ensure that the process of globalisation takes on a more ethical character, Guy Verhofstadt, Belgian prime minister said. In a lengthy open letter to the anti-globalisation protesters who have disrupted a series of recent international meetings such as July's G-8 summit in Genoa, Mr Verhofstadt admitted globalisation had largely benefited richer western countries.
