With Euro II (Bharat Stage II) emission norms becoming applicable from April 1 this year for motor vehicles all over the country, carburetor technology in passenger cars would become obsolete. For Euro II and Euro III standard vehicles, the multi point fuel injection (MPFI) system is almost a norm as it enables better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. With an estimated production capacity of 730,000 units per annum and nine major players, the carburetor industry is now on the lookout for new avenues to survive and flourish.
