Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has accorded techno-economic clearance to the 1,000 mw Karcham Wangtoo hydroelectric project to be set up on Sutluj river in Himachal Pradesh. The project, planned for providing 4,560 million units of energy annually to Northern states, would be executed by Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs 5,910 crore. It is the largest Hydro project to be constructed in the private sector and scheduled to be completed in six years.
