The Centre has begun preparations for the Millennium Census, one of the largest administrative operations ever undertaken by any government of the world. A work force of two million enumerators larger than the adult population of a country like Singapore, will be engaged for the excercise which will begin in March 2001, by when the population of India is expected to cross 100 crores.
