With a view to removing the hardships that would be caused to the public due to withdrawal of non-CNG buses from October 1, the Centre today moved the Supreme Court for a direction to extend the deadline of September 30 for commercial vehicles and bus operators to convert their fleet into the CNG mode.In its affidavit, which is to be taken up for hearing on Friday, the Centre also wanted the Court to clarify that the CNG orders of July 1998 would not apply to "contract carriages" and "all-India tourist buses" plying on inter-city and inter-State routes.
