Major Gujarat-based manufacturers of dyes, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and pesticides have chosen to stay away from the request of the Union ministry of chemicals and fertilisers to get listed under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). A K A Rathi, technical advisor (chemicals), government of Gujarat, said very few chemical companies in Gujarat have submitted the mandatory declaration under the CWC."I believe barring a couple of companies, there have not been any inspections of companies either," said Rathi. In Gujarat, there are over 8000 small-scale chemical units, about 1000 medium-sized chemical manufacturing plants and about 600 large units, adding up to around 10,000.
