Chhattisgarh plan pegged at Rs. 4,275 crores

The Planning Commission has approved Chhattisgarh's 2005-06 annual plan at Rs. 4,275 crores. The plan size was finalised at a meeting here today between the Deputy Chairman of the Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Raman Singh.During the discussions, Mr. Ahluwalia appreciated the steps taken by the State in horticulture, irrigation and dairy development. However, he added, the State had to focus more on areas like literacy and primary health. He also suggested reforms in the power sector and in the implementation of social sector schemes. Diversification in agriculture and employment schemes for rural and tribal people should also be considered on a priority basis, the Deputy Chairman said.
