Farmers in large numbers demonstrated at the State Assembly here on Thursday under the banner of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti (KSS) to get back acquired land and cancellation of Adani Pench Power Project, Pench Diversion Project, SKS Project, and MAXCO Project in Chhindwara. The farmers gathered at Shahjehani Park and marched towards Assembly, they were stopped at Nilam Park by police, after which they resorted to sit-in that continued till late in the evening. KSS working president and former legislator Sunilam Mishra addressing farmers demanded that State Government should take the position that no agricultural land will be acquired and no land acquisition would be done without consent of Gram Sabha. He demanded that the State Government should bring this resolution and get it clear in the Assembly for inclusion in the proposed land acquisition Bill to be passed in the Budget Session of the Parliament. Sunilam further said that the Government will not be allowed to become agent of business houses while taking votes in the name of welfare of common people. He said that Supreme Court has directed all the State Governments to clear the encroachments of the graveyards and grazing lands, but Government of Madhya Pradesh has allowed not only encroachments of graveyards and grazing lands but also allowed Adani’s to encroach the public village roads and 20 hectares of grass forest. In Katni, grazing land is given away to Sukhsagar Builders. Similarly land acquired in the name of irrigation in the Pench Diversion Project is being used for providing water to Adani’s, which is totally illegal, he added. He said that of the State Government fails to resolve the issue, then the farmers would have no alternate except for taking the issue to streets of Delhi by organising demonstration at Parliament House in March. The KSS also submitted memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, Water Resources Minister and Revenue Minister on the occasion.
