China, home of some of the most polluted cities in the world, has received $420 million from a multilateral fund to protect the ozone layer, the official Xinhua news agency said. Some $200 million from a fund set up in 1987 as part of the Montreal pact to protect the ozone layer would help 200 firms upgrade equipment and clean up ozone-damaging industrial products, it quoted Xie Zhenhua, director of the State Administration of Environmental Protection, as saying.
