Chinese authorities plan to close down 90% of small refineries by January 2000, when leaded gasoline will be banned, industry journal China OPG reported in its most recent issue. The refineries slated for closure, each having fewer than 100,000 tons of annual capacity, aren't equipped to produce unleaded gasoline, the report said.
