Hyderabad has only 114 paid parking lots while the number required is over 500. This forces motorists to park their vehicles on roadsides. The situation is unlikely to be solved soon as Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has not yet finalised the tenders to outsource parking lots. But, of the 250 parking spaces identified by the GHMC, traffic police has given the green signal only to 100 parking lots. "We (traffic police) and the GHMC are working in coordination for identifying parking space. We have given the approval to setting of nearly 100 parking lots at various places in city,' said the additional commissioner of police (traffic), Mr V.S.K. Kaumudi. The GHMC additional commissioner (estates), Dr G. Vani Mohan, said they have invited tenders for nearly 150 parking lots and are in the process of identifying more and providing nearly 500 parking lots in a phased manner. The city needs around 300 parking lots in addition to the existing 114. The surrounding municipalities require another 200, said sources.
