The division bench of the chief justice, Mr VS Sirpurkar and Justice Ms Nadira Patherya of Calcutta High Court today expressed dissatisfaction over the state government's failure to file its affidavit-in-opposition to a writ petition about severe air pollution in the city of Kolkata during the night. The court wondered why no affidavit had yet been filed by the government though about 15 months have passed since the court had directed it to file such an affidavit. The Division Bench today directed the state to file its affidavit within three weeks. It also directed that a copy of today's court order should be sent to the chief secretary of the West Bengal government.
