Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda lit the boiler of the 600-mega watt Unit-2 of the 1,200-MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project at Khedal on the Hisar-Chandigarh highway.
With this, the people of Hisar, the home district of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, hope to get rid of frequent power cuts faced by them, especially during peak summers. Complementing officials of the Haryana Power Generation Corporation and Reliance Infra, the CM said the plant would start power generation by March 15, 2010.
Hooda reiterated his commitment to add 5,000-MW generation capacity during the 11th Five-Year Plan. He said the state was on its way to achieve this target as the hydraulic test of the boiler of first 500-MW unit of the Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Station at Jhajjar had been successfully completed on January 26, 2010. The unit will be synchronised in July 2010. He said the first 660-MW unit of the Mahatma Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project at Jhajjar was next in line to be commissioned in December 2011.
