Dhanbad, May 26: Indicating it means business, Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) has pulled up various stakeholders of the coal belt, including industries and civic organisations, for not doing enough to ensure a cleaner environment as envisaged in the Dhanbad Action Plan formulated last year.
Yesterday, the board distributed minutes of a review meeting it held on April 20 to Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL), Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL), SAIL units, Tata Steel, besides Dhanbad Municipal Corporation, Mineral Area Development Authority (MADA) and over 100 hard coke factories.
Out of 43 most critically polluted industrial clusters in the country, Dhanbad has the dubious distinction of being placed third.
Not surprisingly, it is the most polluted industrial area in Jharkhand, according to findings of the Union ministry of environment and forest.
JSPCB member secretary Sanjay Kumar Sinha said the move to send out the minutes was aimed at putting pressure on the stakeholders to implement the recommendations of the meeting.
