Environmentalists are up in arms against the Cogentrix Energy Inc., the promoters of Mangalore Power Company, for going ahead with the construction of the rehabilitation colony. Even as the Union Government is yet to accord counter-guarantee to the Rs 4,000-crore, 1,000-MW thermal power project being set up at Nandikur near Mangalore, the company has moved one step ahead in executing the Rs 12-crore rehabilitation and resettlement colony at Belapu village for the families being displaced by the project with the commencement of registration of sub-contractors.
