Cold wave claims 7 lives in UP

Cold wave conditions prevailing across northern India claimed seven lives in even as thick fog disrupted normal life in the region.
In Delhi, the maximum temperature recorded was 16.2 degrees Celsius, five less than normal, while the minimum was 7 degrees Celsius, one less than the usual.
Seven persons died in the past 24 hours in different parts of Uttar Pradesh as cold wave conditions prevailed across the state.
While three deaths were reported from Barabanki district, two persons died in Muzaffarnagar and one each in Hardoi and Bijnor districts, official sources said on Tuesday. According to the Met office, the maximum temperature was 5-12 degrees below normal in many parts of UP.
A thick blanket of fog enveloped most parts of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday disrupting normal life and hitting air, rail and road traffic. Met officials said the fog caused reduced visibility. Several trains and flights were either cancelled or delayed. The condition was no better on the roads as traffic vehicular moved at a snail’s pace.
In Himachal Pradesh, while Keylong and Kalpa in Lahaul and Spiti district and Kinnaur district recorded minimum temperatures of minus 7 degrees Celsius and minus 3 degrees Celsius respectively; Manali, Solan, Bhuntar and Sundernagar reeled under piercing cold wave conditions with minimum temperatures around freezing point.
