Collector reviews rural job guarantee scheme

VIRUDHUNAGAR: A total of 39.217 lakh man days of work has been generated under the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme and Rs. 26.49 crore of wages disbursed in the district during 2008-09.
Reviewing the works under the scheme here on Tuesday, the Collector, Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan, said that 3,88,633 families had registered themselves under the scheme. Till the current week in this fiscal 13.064 lakh man days of works was generated and Rs. 8.75 crore disbursed.
The Collector asked the officials to work realising the objective under which the Centre had implemented the scheme. She asked the officials to ensure that the workers were present for seven hours at their worksite. They should leave their initials in the attendance register within 30 minutes on arrival for work.
