Confederation to provide skill training to 5,000 youths

The Confederation of Indian Industry, southern region (CII-SR), will provide skill training to at least 5,000 youths from economically weaker sections to make them employable by April 2006. Another key initiative identified by the premier industry body for implementation this fiscal will be expansion of the HIV-AIDS industry intervention project in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Similar projects will be launched in Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh by September, in association with the respective State Governments. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday about CII-SR plans for 2005-06, R. ParasuRaman, who took over recently as chairman, said under the training project seven skills would be imparted: electrical installation, plumbing, painting, beautician, hair dressing, fashion designing and computer training. The first in the series of training project was launched in Andhra Pradesh sometime ago.
