Conservation to get boost with budget allocation

Olive Ridley protection may finally get a place in the State Budget. The High Power Committee, headed by Chief Secretary Ajit Tripathy, on Saturday decided on creation of a budget head for streamlining conservation. Piecemeal assistance will be a thing of the past. Currently, protection measures of the endangered amphibians are funded either through the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) or from allocations to the Forest and Environment Department of the State Government. Outside agencies like PSUs too extend assistance. In fact, Wildlife Wing of the Forest and Environment Department gets support from MoEF under its annual action plan for protection measures at Gahirmatha. For the Devi river mouth, which is the second nesting ground, allocation is made from the wildlife division
