The Delhi Cooperative Societies Bill, 2003 was unanimously passed by the Delhi Cabinet. The Congress-led Delhi government has also called a special session of the Delhi Assembly to pass the bill. After passing the bill in the Assembly, the government will send it for presidential assent. While the new act will help a large number of Delhiites, who are living in group housing societies by resolving numerous property-related disputes and check the rampant "mafia raj," around three lakh residents whose occupancy right will be regularised will have to pay conversion fee ranging from Rs 30,000 to 70,000 within a year. Besides, the property owners will also have to pay Rs 10,000 to their societies for the Common Good Fund.
